EQUINE EXPERT WITNESS

Considering that the equine industry represents over a billion dollars a year in consumer spending and touches lives in several other related businesses it only makes sense that there are legal disputes that are ongoing. These legal matters will call for specialty experts in various fields. Such as Veterinarians for their opinion in wrongful death, or possible fraud on health issues. A farrier will be consulted on lameness issues, and a professional horsemen for his vast overall knowledge of the industry.

Because of my lifelong involvement in the horse business I have been retained several times to give my expert opinion in depositions and at trial. When I am asked if I have an interest in a legal matter I will discuss the circumstances of the case with the attorney. This is when I can help an attorney because I have so much hands on experience with horses that I understand what happened, why it happened, and who is at fault. Most of the grievances I have been involved with have settled out of court

You will find below a short personal biography outlining my lifelong commitment in the equine industry.

Douglas Leadley’s Personal Biography:

Douglas Leadley turned professional horseman soon after high school. Like his forefathers, he has enjoyed a very successful career. In 1973, Doug started at Birch Valley Arabians in Buffalo, Minnesota. Soon after Doug started training their horses at Birch Valley, they won their first national award and many thereafter. In 1985, Doug was hired to show the Imported Arabian stallion *ABDULLAHHH. Abdullahhh had just sold at auction for an Arabian breed record of $3.2 million dollars. This record stands to this day. In 1986, Doug was hired to manage Strutz Kentuky Park, a prestigious Arabian farm in La Grange, Kentucky. In 1987, Doug showed J.M. Esquire at the United States Nationals held in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Esquire went on to be named National Champion Futurity Stallion. In 1989, Doug moved to Marin County, California (just outside San Francisco) to manage Nicasio Valley Arabians, the owner of the breeds top stallion BEY SHAH. While at Nicasio Valley, Doug enjoyed his most successful years winning several titles, including back to back yearling classes at the prestigious Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show held in Scottsdale, Arizona. This show is the largest Arabian horse show in the World.

Today, Doug lives in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he continues to be very active in the horse industry running his own equine consulting firm, which includes managing the largest Arabian breeding farm in the Northwest, Orrion Farms, located in Ellensburg, Washington. Doug also continues to show horses for clients all over the World, including South America and South Africa.

As you can see from the abbreviated biography above, Doug Leadley has a lifetime of horse experience; he did not learn his craft from a text book. This experience has been invaluable for Doug’s clients when legal advice is needed for equine disputes.

Doug has successfully helped resolve several legal disputes over the years. Doug has been given Depositions to read, he has testified in court, and he has given written opinions to help settle these legal matters.

Doug’s hands on knowledge can sometimes be more effective then even a Veterinarian, because most veterinarians do not specialize in just equine, as well as the fact that Doug has had 33 years of experience doing everything in the horse business from giving riding lessons to breaking horses to ride.
